Federation of British Aquatic Societies

a) The codes have been designed to afford a primary degree of care and protection for all fish that are offered for sale by aquatic astablishments, be they Aquatic Outlets, Pet Shops or Garden Centres.

b) To offer advice to those either considering purchasing an aquarium or who already have a fish tank.

c) The Codes have not been written in legal terminology to ensure their widest understanding, neither have they been formulated to cover every foreseeable event.

Therefore, with this in mind, fishkeepers should seek to improve the standard of care, uphold the spirit of these Codes and seek to improve on them.

Comments upon and/or means of improvement of the codes are most welcome. These should be submitted in writing to the J&S Secretary whose address can be found on this FBAS Website.

Duty of Care is not restricted. Every fishkeeper has a Duty of Care 24 hours a day in respect of any species held by them in captivity.

With respect to this need, the Federation has published a series of
CARE SHEETS covering the most popular groups of fishes, their care in both aquarium and/or pond together with aquarium management advice.
